These Are the Most Successful European Hedge Fund Managers

Figures ranking the most successful hedge fund managers in Europe show Brevan Howard’s flagship fund, led by founder Alan Howard, as the best performer. 

The new figures come from fund of funds manager LCH Investments, which revealed its global top 20 last week. It pulled the European figures for sister title Financial News.

Global macro trader Alan Howard, based in Geneva has generated net gains of $17 billion for investors since his fund launched in 2003, according to LCH.


Lansdowne Partners’ portfolio managers Pete Davies and Stuart Roden move up one position from last year into second place, with net gains of $8.2 billion since inception. During 2013, Mr. Davies and Mr. Roden netted gains of $3.2 billion with their developed markets strategy—more than any other manager in Europe, according to LCH. Performance was driven by successful investments in banks and airlines, and short positions in single-stock names, according to Landsdowne Partners’s year-end letter.

This puts the pair just ahead of long/short equity peer John Armitage, founder of Egerton Capital, who is third. He has generated $8.1 billion since he launched his firm two decades ago. Mr. Armitage made net gains of $2.8 billion last year....MORE
